What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program built upon constantly varied, functional movements executed at high intensity.
The program delivers a fitness that is broad and general. It takes the best elements from a wide variety of sports and training methods – and combines them into a program that develops all the 10 areas of fitness:
• Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance
• Stamina
• Strength
• Flexibility
• Power
• Speed
• Coordination
• Agility
• Balance
• Accuracy
CrossFit training increases your performance levels in all these areas without having to sacrifice one for another.
Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist. The more specialized you are, the less cross-adapted you are likely to be in other measures of physical prowess.
The CrossFit program involves varied natural movements taken from gymnastics, weightlifting and athletics… performed at high intensities. These maximum effort workouts have been proven to give the best results and provide the best bang for your buck workout anywhere.
Exercises range from basic movements like pushups, squats, running, jumping etc – to highly technical and difficult movements such as the Olympic lifts and gymnastics movements.
These exercises are totally natural and you will find that you use the movements regularly in your everyday life. This not only makes you fit, but healthy as well.
All the exercises can (and will be) scaled to suit your current level of fitness. Everybody starts at what they can already do… and then work up from there.
Who uses CrossFit?
CrossFit is designed for everbody, and a huge variety of people attend our classes.
CrossFit North Queensland trains people from all walks of life from stay at home mums to those who have competed for Australia on the world stage. From 8 year olds to grandmothers, and everyone in between.
All CrossFit workouts for the day are the same… and scaled to suit your current level of fitness.
In America, CrossFit training is becoming especially popular within the military and emergency services (firefighters and police officers).
CrossFit World Class Fitness in 100 Words
Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and lay new sports.
